I had the privilege of working with David Royer when we were part of a team of U.S. professionals chosen by Northwest Medical Teams International [http://www.medicalteams.org/about-us/mission-and-values] to do training of health professionals in China (Beijing and Chengdu) to diagnose and treat HIV infections. I found him to be a great asset to our team - articulate, informed, and very professional at all times. His knowledge of health systems and health information technology [HIT] were critical components of our ability to help the Chinese understand what is necessary to deal with an emerging health threat in their vast population. While their health system is very different that ours in the U.S., the problems posed are similar when dealing with a deadly infectious disease. David brought expertise in data collection, management, and security that no one else on our team had, and made considerable contributions to our efforts to help the Chinese deal with this public health challenge. I have had ongoing association with David since our trip to China in 2008, and am aware of the scope of his work internationally and success in his various ventures.
